Update – Page 28-11 Cover Panel Error
I was reading various posts on the VansAirForce RV14 Forum about something completely different, and just happened to see that someone had commented about another builder’s F-01435A Cover Panel … as you do : )
Anyway, as always hindsight is a wonderful thing! It’s now evident that I have gone and riveted the Cover Panel’s top flange on top of the Cover Rib top flanges, when in fact it should be underneath them.
Obvious really, when you look at the little slots in the panel’s top flange!
So the orientation of my Cover Panel flange in the picture above is WRONG!
The forum posts about this say that the drawing is incorrect on page 28-11 (rev2).
But actually I think it is correct, but just very confusing!
It’s confusing because the F-01435A Cover Panel is drawn TRANSPARENT, compounded by the fact that the structure beneath is drawn hatched. So it’s sort of a double negative!
Don’t Panic!
I reckon lots of builders have probably got this wrong, but as the relevant post describes, when Vans were consulted about this they admit the drawing is inaccurate, but don’t worry because it will make no difference.
I’m very glad about this since it would need about 30 rivets removed to rectify!
All in all, FOOHEY FUDGE CAKE! It just shows the value of lots of background research prior to each stage. I missed this one.

Yep did the same thing. I realised after when looking at the slots. I decided to drill out and correctly install as wasn’t sure if it would push up interfering with the top cover panels with the finishing kit. In doing so I cracked the cover panel and ended up ordering a new one 🙁

I actually did the same thing only I decided to drill them out and correct it. Took me about 1 hour. I only had to remove the top rivet on each and the top most nutplate (which mates both flanges) and the nutplates meant I just needed to drill the heads off and they popped off no problem.
